The 2015 season has begun !

Today was the first US Triatlo Jovent 79 meeting !
Good food, good beers but most of all, a good company, has led to the organization of the preliminary agenda for this year. The team is getting ambitious and will start the season with the annual mini-heart marathon in Cincinnati in March (www.heartmini.org), followed by the famous Flying Pig for the most audacious (http://flyingpigmarathon.com). Also, the Chicago Marathon might be one of the objectives during the fall season (http://www.chicagomarathon.com). Of course, the year will be flavored by many other events (e.g. boot camps, trainings, races...) and more get-together !
Keep up the good work !
Hugs!

Topo Trail Series #4 - Devou Park...No Ride outside so le'ts trail run

Today was the 4th Race of the Trail Winter Series organized by Topo Adventure. The temperatures are not too cold (still too cold for biking outside...well the water is still frozen in surface, a good indicator) and so the trails at Devou are really muddy.

By respect for the amazing work of the workers of CORA who maintain the trail system down there and to preserve the trails in good shape, the course was modified and we did not race on the MTB trails from the railway side but from the other side of the Park on a 5 miles loop (3 miles on Road + 2 miles on hiking trails) with the classic 1 or 2 loops division.

Brian from Topo Adventure wrote one the course details to bring our climbing legs even .....and he was true. The 1st kilometer from the start was basically a 100m elevation climb to reach the top of the Devou Park and I can't stop to think that I have to do it again for the second loop. Once the big climb passed, we cruised on rode for 1 more kilometer before finally hitting a portion of trail....kind of muddy but not too much, we swallow a short climb and back on road for a devil downhill....The leading pack with 5-6 guys and me (5 or 10 milers) has already got a gap with the rest of the runners, the first climb had already made a bit of difference. We climbed again for 400m on road before another crazy downhill, same strategy relaxing the legs just letting the gravity operates....Back on trails for a 1k climb less steep but a bit muddy and we are almost done with the first lap. After a quick downhill and a last km flat time to get into the second laps after saying good job to the 5miles runners stopped around the water tank. I met with another runner who stayed with me the 3 first guys on the top of the crazy hill on a double way section as they are already running into the other direction.
After the last downhill, we accelerate for the last km and I got passed 200m before the finish line, the guys who stayed with me was stronger today and after a "Well done man" I let him running away before crossing the finish line in 5th position.

The race was fun, Brian has done a good job changing the course at the last minute and at least that time I was not freezing....

Result : 16.4km - 400m D+ in 1h14min

How to BKool and ride during Winter?

Being from a warm area with almost no winter is not the best when the cold Midwest period comes. After some bad previous experiences during winter rides, the motivation was not really here when the first freezing days were knocking to the door.....but that was without counting on home trainer!!! What?!? Home Trainer!!!! It's usually tough to stay more than 1h on those bloody machines and here come the saver: the Bkool....Marc has shown David and I this trainer (developed in Barcelona...) which is computer linked and simulates your GPS files previously uploaded online or the sessions created by the growing  Bkool community.

Since November, we are both using it in our own preferred set-up....a computer or two to pilot the trainer and watch movies or TV shows during the session as contemplating the wall in front of you is still not fun. The software also allows different riders to train together on the same file reinforcing the fun of sessions.

If, the boring side of the trainer is really less with the Bkool, the sweating is still the same and it’s better to not forget to hydrate. The big advantage is that we can now train on the bike whenever we have time for longer session without thinking of changing the resistance.

The program for tonight, a 50km session :
David : 52.3km
Marc : 48.5km
Matt : 48.9Km

Running sets at Lunken Airport

Onces or twice a week we use to run at Lunken Airport if the weather allow us to survive during winter. Perfect place to run short or long sets in a 8.5 km loop.
Last night time to play with Matt the new sets for this mesocycle 15x2 mins with incomplete recovery of 1 min at 3:30/km pace.
Good job this night! Now time to rest and recover for tomorrow!

Triatlo Jovent 79 opens in US

Finally the day arrived and we got the certificate as a official club of USA Triathlon on the January 12th 2015.
We're very excited to continue the principles and the philosophy of the original club in Barcelona created in 1979 by Joan and Pere Benach. Their idea of a triathlon club is out of the new philosophy to make money with the sport, all of us knows that today the sport is a business.
The basic principles of the club are: to participate actively with the activities of the club, to enjoy doing sport with the teammates and to be part of the family because we spend a lot of time training for our goals and all you need is a team family that understands you and helps you.
The real spirit of the sport forgetting the times and the results and getting more hugs after each session.
Welcome abord Triatlo Jovent 79 in US
